We are familiar withonly a part of this divergent tract. By analogy, as well as by direct histologicobservations (Spitzka), it appears reasonable to assume that these tractsdiverge only in the pons from those which are situated deeply because theyunite with the cerebral nerve nuclei in the mid-brain and medulla, and sur-round these cells with their own terminal arborizations; at present we knowthe tracts of only the facial and hypoglossal nerve- (Edinger).
